Beyond the Bike is returning to London in June 2016 after 10 months and 10,000km cycling through 19 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia. Stuart and Claire have been raising money and awareness for education in very poor areas of Africa and SE Asia, working mainly with two charities - Beyond Ourselves and United World Schools. They have also been visiting schools en route for assemblies, lectures and lessons. Schools in the UK have been following their progress through their blogs and skype calls. You can find out more about this project at http://www.beyondthebike.org/the-next-revolution-2015-16
They will finish their adventure with a week-long cycle around London, visiting Oxford and Cambridge, among other towns, en route. They will start by speaking at the Daily Telegraph Festival of Education at Wellington College on 23rd and 24th June. Then they will cycle clockwise around the capital.
Stuart and Claire would be delighted to have others join them on any part of this journey. Stuart's tandem will have a spare back seat (first come, first served!). Some days will be less than 50km, other days will be over 100km. They will always try to start and end days near mainline train stations and will usually be able to be flexible with timings to enable people to join. The expectation is that riders joining will raise money for the charities, either by getting sponsored themselves or by making a donation. Beyond the Bike is hoping to raise over £50,000 by the end of this ride.
Riders can join on any day(s) and for as long as they wish but the two most popular days will probably be:
Saturday 25th June: A scenic c. 100km cycle through the Chilterns from a train station near London to (a town with a train station in) Oxfordshire.
Saturday 2nd July: An equally scenic c.100km Surrey Hills ride, finishing at Giro Cafe, Esher from where we started our journey in September 2015!
